Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Previs/Postvis/Final FX - 2011 - 20th Century Fox - Rupert Wyatt
20th Century Fox's Apes series reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, required an immense visual effects effort. PLF's team was brought onto the project early in production. In addition to managing its own load of previs sequences, PLF was set up as the film's central previs hub, responsible for coordinating and supervising the tasks of numerous vendors.
When the Apes' production traveled to Vancouver, BC, a PLF Supervisor made regular trips back and forth from Los Angeles, continuing the previs effort with the filmmakers up north and the local PLF artists, respectively.
When production returned to Los Angeles, PLF was made the exlusive previs vendor. The increased team of artists delivered hundreds of shots in 6 months and was deeply embedded within the editorial department, which allowed for nearly instantaneous creative iterations. Also, by an extensive techvis effort that married virtual and practical elements into single unified camera moves, PLF assisted production in accomlishing the film's climactic Golden Gate Bridge sequence.
